This explains what AskGround stores, what it doesn't, and for how long. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, ask us and we'll fix the wording.

The short version. The chat bot on a customer's website answers questions inside the visitor's own browser — the question text is matched against answers already downloaded with the page, so in the normal case it never reaches us at all. What is sent to us is a record that a question was asked and whether it was answered, so the site owner can see what their visitors wanted. We store no cookies, no IP addresses, and nothing that links two questions to the same person.

Who we are

AskGround is a product of Entjexa Labs LLP, registered in Bengaluru, India. For anything in this document, write to contact@askground.com.

Two different relationships

It matters which one applies to you, because our obligations differ.

What the bot sends us, and when

WhatWhenWhy
The text of the question asked Every question So the site owner can see what visitors ask, and especially what the bot could not answer
Whether it was answered or declined Every question The counts on the owner's dashboard
The question and the answer shown Only when a visitor marks an answer unhelpful So the owner can correct a bad answer
A question and an optional email address Only when a visitor chooses "ask the team" and types one So the business can reply to them directly

The email address is the only personal data we hold about visitors

It is optional, it is typed deliberately by someone who wants a reply, and it is used for exactly one thing: showing it to the business whose website you were on, so they can answer you. We do not add it to a mailing list, we do not sell or share it, and we do not use it to market anything to you. You can use the same box without leaving an address — the question still reaches the business.

What we never collect

One honest warning. A chat box is a free-text field, and people sometimes type things into one that nobody asked for — a phone number, an order ID, occasionally something personal. We cannot stop that, and anything typed into the box is stored as question text as described above. Please don't put sensitive personal information into a chat widget, here or anywhere else.

How long we keep things

Where it is stored

On Cloudflare's network, in Cloudflare Workers KV. Cloudflare is our infrastructure provider and processes this data on our instructions. We do not use any other third-party service to store customer or visitor data.

The bot's own answers are also present in the JavaScript file served from the customer's website — that is how the bot answers without calling a server. Those answers are the public content of that customer's own website.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and comparable laws elsewhere, you can ask to see what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to contact@askground.com and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are a visitor to a customer's site, tell us the website and roughly when you used the chat, since we have no identifier to look you up by — that absence is deliberate, but it does mean we need your help to find anything.

Changes

If we change how any of this works, we will change this page and move the date at the top. Material changes affecting existing customers will be emailed to them.

This document describes our actual practice rather than restating the law. It is not legal advice, and it does not replace the data-processing terms in a signed customer agreement.
